Daryn's Rookie Year, 2006
Lee
Remmel Awards: Colledge is a quick study. By Tom
Pelissero, tpelisse@greenbaypressgazette.com
- April
12, 2007 In any other
season, Daryn Colledge might have
come under more scrutiny as a rookie starter on the Green Bay Packers' offensive
line. But with Tony Moll and Jason Spitz also moving quickly from the NFL draft
to the starting lineup last year, Colledge had the opportunity to blend in as
just another member of the young front protecting veteran quarterback Brett
Favre. For his
contributions to the Packers' [2006] 8-8 season, Colledge will be honored
tonight with the Professional Achievement
Award at the Lee Remmel Sports Awards
banquet at Legends in De Pere. A second-round
pick out of Boise State, Colledge signed a four-year, $2.91
million contract days before training camp. He moved into the lineup in Week 2
and started the Packers' last 15 games, including 14 at left guard. • After
redshirting as a freshman at Boise State, Colledge set school records for consecutive games played and started
(52). The Broncos were 45-7 and won four consecutive Western Athletic Conference
crowns during that period. Colledge left BSU with weight-room
records in the power clean (438 pounds) and back squat (665). • Colledge
grew up on South Santa Claus Lane in North Pole, Alaska. Only eight Alaska
natives have been drafted into the NFL — none earlier than Colledge, who was picked
47th overall. Colledge, who
stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 305 pounds,
used to work as a bouncer at the Ha' Penny Bridge Pub in downtown Boise, Idaho.
He doesn't plan to go back to checking IDs when his playing career ends,
however. He'd like to put his communications
degree to work in television or radio. "Ups and
downs, highs and lows. It's been fun. ... (The high point of last season was)
being able to get back on the field and be successful.
Then the four-game winning streak and the accolades at the end of the
season — it's been good. Just have to keep getting better." "Reprinted
